Experts get together at the Art of Compression Colloquium 2018

For the fifth time, THE SCHAUFLER FOUNDATION has organised the international Art of Compression Colloquium. On 16 May, at the jointly organised event by TU Dresden and Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences, researchers came to the museum SCHAUWERK Sindelfingen in Germany, to discuss the refrigeration, air-conditioning and heat pump technology of the future

The Art of Compression Colloquium 2018 was held under the motto of ‘Moving Boundaries in Refrigeration, Air-Conditioning and Heat Pumps (RACHP) – Outlook into the Future’. The international colloquium offered the numerous scientists and other professionals of the industry an ideal platform to discuss the questions which are currently dominating the sector and to exchange ideas about their future development. One exciting subject was, for example, the consequences of the European Union’s F-gas Regulation for refrigerants in special applications such as when used at ultra-low temperatures.

The speakers at the Art of Compression Colloquium included Professor Ullrich Hesse and Professor Christoph Haberstroh, both from TU Dresden, Professor Michael Kauffeld, from Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences, as well as Barbara Bergmann, the Director of SCHAUWERK in Sindelfingen. For the art lovers amongst the participants, the conference began with a tour through the ‘Pinc kommt! Rupprecht Geiger’ exhibition in the SCHAUWERK Sindelfingen.

‘We’re very happy that so many first-rate scientists and speakers joined us in Sindelfingen again this year.’

Developing new ideas together

Ingo Smit, Chairman of THE SCHAUFLER FOUNDATION management board emphasised: ‘We’re very happy that so many first-rate scientists and speakers joined us in Sindelfingen again this year. Many of the speakers and visitors have been attending the Art of Compression range of events for a long time. Here we have the opportunity to revive old friendships, make new contacts and discuss the latest challenges in the industry. The Art of Compression Colloquium 2018 was a complete success.’

‘In times of change, it becomes clear just how important dialogue is,’ said Rainer Große-Kracht, Board Member and Chief Technology Officer at BITZER, in his welcome speech

Rainer Große-Kracht, Member of the Board and Chief Technology Officer at BITZER, added: ‘In times of change, it becomes clear just how important dialogue is. With low-GWP refrigerants, the Ecodesign Directive and increasing digitalization in refrigeration and air-conditioning, brand-new challenges await us. The dialogue with experts during the Art of Compression Colloquium makes a valuable contribution to preparing us for the future, as the best ideas are developed together.’

Peter Schaufler founded THE SCHAUFLER FOUNDATION in 2005. As an entrepreneur, he considered it his life’s work to support science, research and teaching in the field of refrigeration and air-conditioning and to promote the modern arts. And so does the foundation, carrying on his name: it is a shareholder of BITZER SE and also the museum SCHAUWERK Sindelfingen is placed under its guidance.
