BITZER subsidiary ElectraTherm, based in the US state of Georgia, is a leading specialist in producing emission-free electricity from low-temperature waste heat. As a provider of solutions based on the Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC), ElectraTherm is able to sustainably reduce CO2 emissions with the POWER+ GENERATOR. The application areas of the ORC thermodynamic cycle range from low-temperature waste heat from stationary engines (diesel/biogas), biomass plants and geothermal energy or process waste heat to the elimination of flaring associated with oil and gas production, or wastewater treatment plants.

ElectraTherm offers a total of two different capacities for the POWER+ GENERATOR: the POWER+ 4400B with a capacity up to 75 kW and the POWER+ 6500B with a capacity up to 120 kW. With BITZER screw expanders, both models use a tried-and-tested technology at the heart of its ORC design.

ElectraTherm POWER+ GENERATOR 4400B with a capacity up to 75 kW

One major advantage of the BITZER screw expanders is a semi-hermetic design which couples the expander and generator as one unit. Thanks to this feature, a shaft seal between the expander and generator is not necessary, thus enhancing the reliability of the ElectraTherm POWER+ GENERATOR. In addition, the BITZER experts designed the screw expander for dual-phase flow, so it can work with both vapour and with partial wet vapour. Its high-pressure capability means that it also expands the application limits and input and output temperatures of the ORC technology. BITZER is also currently expanding its product line of expanders to increase output over 120 kW.
